Dolphins Sold to Stephen M. Ross. New head coach is Sam Phillips.

Sam Phillips became the first head coach to transfer directly to the NFL from a High School program, after leading W.T. White to three consecutive Texas State Championship Titles. The Dallas Independent School District (DISD) required all coaches to teach in school classes. The football program was not considered to be an in school class. Furious at the new requirements he quit, and Phillips vowed never to return to his alma-mater again. In haste, Phillips packed a suit case and headed for the Florida Keys. After spending a week on the beach, it is rumored that Phillips was out late partying with Jimmy Johnson. When the news broke that Sam Phillips would be the next coach of the Miami Dolphins, he was out deep sea fishing on Jimmy Johnson's boat. His first interview was done from the dock, seaside eating ceviche with Jimmy.

Coach Phillips is a natural leader and believes motivation is a crucial element to success. Former players have strong loyalty to the coach, claiming "Coach will listen to what you have to say, but he hears better when we're winning".  Dolphins players have already started watching game film. Extra attention has been placed on the quarterbacks, defensive sack specialists, and the offensive line; who will be learning new run blocking techniques.

The offense is expected to be a zone power running game in between the tackles, with vertical passing to stop defenses from stacking the box. Phillips will implement a 3-4 defense that relies on heavily blitzing the quarterback.

Experts are still speculating; how a high school coach transitions directly to the NFL. New Dolphins owner Stephen M. Ross purchased 50% of the Dolphins in an effort to install his hand picked coach. Critics of the coach have speculated about under the table deals, back door politics, and possible black mail.

Sink or swim, the Dolphins are starting the season with a splash!
